September Group Activity Inspiration

by locdiva - Autumn Leaf Fridge Magnet
Fall is my favorite time of the year. I enjoy the cool evening breeze and the crisp morning air. I remember walking to school as a small girl (I was actually underweight then!) kicking into the piles of leaves the neighbors had carefully raked. Or collecting the prettiest ones for a school project. Remember placing the reds and golds between two sheets of waxed paper and sealing it with a warm iron?  Years later I would do the same thing with my son we both had a wonderful time.
My craft is a Autumn Leaf Fridge Magnet. Crocheted in Sweet Pea Green, Chocolate Brown and Brick Red. Attached with twine and embellished with acorns and berries.

I used a faux postage stamp for the dotted outline. Then I placed a mask over the outline and stenciled on some background color. I used various leaf stamps to fill in the "windows". Since fall is my very favorite time of year I stamped my ATC with "Happy Fall".

This one is a card. I stamped the pumpkin outline in black archival ink. I used watercolor pencils  blended with a water pen to color. I made a mask of the pumpkin and stamped the foliage around the base. Then added some background fill-in for both light colored mats and stamped with "Fall is in the air" because I love it when you can smell fall in the air. (I live in Western PA but maybe it's like that in other parts of the country also). Added some ribbon and buttons and called it done.

I thought long and hard about what to do for this challenge. Crocheting, sewing or knitting takes a lot of time, so I didn't have too long to think or plan. I searched for various crochet patterns online and found a crocheted door wreath at the Lily's sugar 'n cream website consisting of leaves and acorns. I liked the leaves but felt no love for the wreath, plus, the wreath had little to do with my weight loss journey, which was the point of the project. After a few moments of thought, I decided to take the leaves from the wreath and make a scarf.
I made 18 leaves in 6 colors (3 leaves each) and sewed them together.  I had all but one fall color in my left-overs basket, so this was a great way to use up odds and ends!  I made a leaf for every 5 pounds I intend to lose and then later attached a contrasting fall colored star for every 5 lbs I HAVE lost.  The finished scarf is around 7.5 feet long and took about 5-6 hours.  The hardest part was the sewing together and stitching the seam down the front of the leaves and then hiding all the tail ends of the yarn.  The making of the leaves and sewing of the buttons was quick work and was quite fun.  This project was perfect for someone on the run, as each leave took about 15 mins to make.  Oh, and since I owned all but one yarn, I spent $2.50 on yarn and $1.99 on the fall colored star buttons. $4.50 is a perfectly priced scarf!
If you notice, three leaves are left unfinished (without stars), and that's because I am unfinished. I have 14lbs left to lose, and until I lose them, those leaves will sit and wait on their stars.  I chose the star as my adornment because it's a WW symbol of celebration.  I no longer need to keep bravo stickers on a star-catcher bookmark, I can wear my scarf and know what the leaves and stars mean to me.
I fondly think of this scarf as being called "Like Leaves, The Pounds Just Fall!"

Above are two quilt blocks (Ohio Star & Ring Of Heart). A person could post these two quilt blocks made by them to represent a weight-loss milestone. For example, they could post the two blocks to represent two pounds lost, or two weeks at WW, etc. Or, they could use the construction of the blocks to represent WI... For example, the Ohio Star is based on the Nine-Patch Block in quilting. This could represent anything from being on the plan for nine months to losing 90 pounds.

by readysetlove - Autumn Birthday Card
Earth colors are my favorite, especially fall colors. Autumn is probably my favorite time of year. Granted, where I live I don't get many seasons. Mostly just hot, or not. But, when I do get a chance to see tree leaves changing to lovely hues of red and orange... It's breathtaking. I created this card for a fall birthday. I used Stampin' Up! stamps, inks and paper. I also used paper from a local craft store. This incorporates autumn leaves and the color scheme... :) I have another craft that I'll be posting soon that uses the same themes and I'm still thinking of what to do to incorporate "me" into the project. I have an idea of what to do... Just need to get to it!
