November Group Activity

Thank you to everyone who submitted their crafts for the past couple months.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of response... I will not be doing anything complicated or specific. I'm revamping Group Activity.

November: Family
Do a craft that somehow represents your family. Sweet & simple. ♥

Email in your photos, a sentence or two of what you did and why did it, and how you incorporated your family or what you're thankful for into your craft(s) to wwcraftyladies@gmail.com if you'd like to be included in the blog. I will post updates until the deadline -- December 1st. Don't forget to include your WW user-name!

If you don't want to participate in the blog, post your photos on the Crafty Ladies group page and talk about your art in the month's discussion! Even if you do participate in the blog, please do it anyways. ;) We all want to see you fabulous work!

Stay crafty. ;)

October Group Activity Submissions Part 3

by Flesch1234 - Halloween Washcloth
This is the first knitted "picture" washcloth that actually turned out like I wanted! It takes the right tension for the purl stitches to "pop" out. I knitted this washcloth for a WW friend that I met in person, then I FORGOT to bring it along when we met! I am planning on mailing it to her this weekend.

October Group Activity Submissions Part 2

by chandra_lynnea - Left Handed Notebook Covers
by chandra_lynnea - Left Handed Notebook Covers
This isn't exactly the October project, but being that I actually completed something, I thought I'd share it with you.  These are the notebook covers that Jillian (Jilliansway) asked for.  She's a left-handed wonder, so it's a little awkward running around with a spiral notebook backward.  These fit a regular size spiral notebook like a book cover did when we were in school.  They have pockets on the inside for easy storage.  Each is slightly different in true handmade style.  The purple one has a working button closure that says Imagine.  The pink one is for her daughter (another lefty) and instead of a true button closure, it has Velcro.  The green also has Velcro, but I hand stitched a J on the flap.  My husband was truly impressed seeing me do this.
Actually, I now want to make a few of these for my friends for Christmas.  I have a few who would appreciate them.
Beginning inspiration and pattern are from here.  I changed the closure from the ribbon to a fabric one and added fusible pellon to the back of the white lining to add stiffness.  I also didn't like the raw look in the binding of the first one I made, so I ended up lining where the spiral spine goes.  You can't see this in the pictures, and I'm not sure if it was something I really should have done, but it's done now, lol.  We shall see how Jillian likes it.

October Group Activity Inspiration

by jilliansway - Shall Pin

Halloween was not really celebrated at out house.  Not only did my mom not believe in it, but she wouldn't spend money on the holiday.  If we did pull something together to go trick-or-treating, my mom and dad usually confiscated the candy and left us with the raisins and popcorn balls.
I decided to make efforts for my daughter that I felt were missing in my life and so I made her costume this year.  This dress, fairy wings and wand were all made by me with love for her and she LOVES them.
When the October challenge came out and pink and brown were on the color suggestion, I knew I would do something for ME with my left-over yarn from her dress.  I found a beautiful shawl pattern from lionsbrand called "mother of the bride" and picked a lovely shade of simply soft called "bone" to match the pink/brown wool sized 2 lace yarn i used on the dress and got started.  2 days and 6 hours later, I had my shawl, but something was missing!  I needed a shawl pin.
I bought myself a $20 shawl pin a few years ago.  It was through a fair-trade progam and worth the $20, but it was fragile and my then 18 month old daughter broke it.  I no longer have the resources to spend $20 on a shawl pin and that's about the going price all over the craft sites, so I thought about what I could do to make my own.  After a walk around Walmart, I found some VERY affordable items and was able to make my own shawl pins.  People have started approaching me about purchasing these for Crhistmas gifts, so you never know when something will pop up for you.

by eroomdog - Monte Carlo Dress Costume
I have been part of a challenge to fit into a smaller costume by Halloween since the summer. I decided to sew my costume in conjunction with this challenge. And, now, I will also use it as part of my activity here. I will be using Folwear patter #264--Monte Carlo Dress to be a 1920's Flapper. I will be using a earth color close to the dark raspberry picture.

October Group Activity

With Halloween at the end of the month, our October Group Activity will be celebrating costumes and Halloween colors.

What was your favorite costume? What have you always wanted to dress up as? Try to tie in your costume into your craft. For example: You could scrapbook photos of yourself or your children in costumes or even make your costume for this year!

Subject: Halloween and Costumes
Make sure to: use pumpkins (you can use the color of pumpkins) -- unless your costume doesn't include pumpkins and you choose to make your costume
Suggested Color Scheme:
[Stampin' Up! colors -- Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Wild Wasabi and Basic Black.]
You don't have to use the exact colors, find some close to them. Use one color, use all... It's up to you! Just remember to have fun!

Also, you can make more than one item for each activity... Unless you can find a way to incorporate all of them into one! OR just pick your favorite out of all the activities and just do one! My hopes is that this is fun, not a chore. :D

Email in your photos, a sentence or two of what you did and why did it, and how you incorporated your costume into your craft(s) to wwcraftyladies@gmail.com if you'd like to be included in the blog. I will post updates until the deadline -- November 1st. Don't forget to include your WW user-name!

If you don't want to participate in the blog, post your photos on the Crafty Ladies group page and talk about your art in the month's discussion! Even if you do participate in the blog, please do it anyways. ;) We all want to see you fabulous work!

September Group Activity Submissions Part 5

by flesch1234 - Washcloths
by flesch1234 - Washcloths
So I guess I've been busy, LOL!! We have a church festival coming up and I am donating 15 washcloths in packages of 5 for them to sell at their Country Store.  Here is the fall related set. I love the leaf looking two toned one (unfortunately, it's the only one from a publication so I can't share).  The second picture is how I "packaged" them together.
Thanks!
